This yr, MAD Architects was invited by Interni Magazine to layout an set up for the courtyard of the Università Degli Studi di Milano. The project is an allegory of the article-pandemic earth and the collective wish to restart and renew. As Ma Yansong describes, “as human beings, if we are searching for independence or relationship with other people, we need to go over and above physical or invisible place that limits us. We must go outside of the restrictions.” The seagull stepping out from the portico and waiting around to acquire flight symbolizes independence whilst also recalling the uncertainty of this individual instant in time.

The set up is produced applying steel profiles covered with LED stripes, which make the task even far more present at night time. The seabird as a symbol of borderless and inclusiveness also appears in MAD’s representations of the Fenix Museum of Migration in Rotterdam. The studio’s very first cultural task in Europe broke ground previous year and is established for completion in 2025.
